Texas Roadhouse does not take reservations. But call ahead seating is the next best thing. One phone call 30 minutes before you leave cuts a 60-minute Friday night wait down to under 15.

This is NOT a reservation
Call ahead seating does not guarantee a table at a specific time. It adds your name to the live waitlist so your wait starts before you arrive. When you walk in, you are already in the queue instead of starting from zero. The host still seats people based on waitlist order and table availability.
Texas Roadhouse is one of the busiest casual dining chains in the country. On a Friday or Saturday night between 6 PM and 8 PM, walk-in wait times hit 45 to 75 minutes at most locations. Call ahead seating cuts that down dramatically. You call from home, your name goes on the list, and by the time you drive there and park, you are near the front of the line.
There are two ways to do this: the old-fashioned phone call, or the Texas Roadhouse app. Both work. Each has situations where one beats the other. This page covers both, plus seven things most people get wrong that cost them their spot.
They both add your name to the same list. The difference is in the details.
Call the restaurant directly
Works Well For
Limitations
Use the phone call for parties of 7 or more, or when you have special seating needs. Also useful when the app is not working.
Texas Roadhouse app or website
Works Well For
Limitations
Use the app for groups of 6 or fewer. It is faster, gives you a real wait estimate, and texts you automatically when your table is ready.
The full process from deciding to go, to sitting down with your rolls.
Find your location's number
Use the Texas Roadhouse app, Google, or our store locator. Make sure you are calling the right location.
Call 30 to 40 minutes before leaving
This is the sweet spot. Less than 20 minutes does not give your name enough time on the list. More than 60 minutes and most locations will not add you yet.
Give name, party size, arrival time
Be precise about party size. Mention high chairs, accessibility needs, or birthday celebrations at this point. Changing party size when you arrive can reset your position.
Arrive on time and go to host stand
Walk in and immediately say "I called ahead." The host will find your name and give you an updated wait estimate. Do not go to the bar or wander around first.
Open the Texas Roadhouse app
Available free on iOS and Android. You can also use the website at texasroadhouse.com. Select "Get in Line" from the main menu.
Find your location and check wait time
The app shows the current estimated wait before you commit to joining the list. Check this first. If it says 10 minutes, just show up. If it says 55 minutes, join from home.
Enter your name, party size, phone number
Your phone number is required because the text notification comes directly to it. Parties larger than 6 are not supported in the app. Call instead.
Watch for the text and head in
When your table is ready, you get a text. You have 15 minutes to check in at the host stand. Head straight there and say "I'm on the app waitlist." Do not let 15 minutes pass or you lose your spot.
These are the specific mistakes that cost people their spot or add 30 minutes to their wait.
When Texas Roadhouse texts you that your table is ready, the clock starts immediately. You have roughly 15 minutes to walk through the door and check in at the host stand. If you miss that window, your table goes to someone else and you restart at the bottom of the list. If you are stuck in traffic, call the restaurant right away and they can usually hold it for a few extra minutes.
The Texas Roadhouse app waitlist has a party size limit. Groups of 7 or more cannot join through the app. You have to call the restaurant directly. When you call for a large group, give the exact headcount, mention any high chairs needed, and ask if the location can seat your party at one table or if they will need to push tables together. This helps them plan ahead for you.
The app shows the current estimated wait before you commit to joining. Use this information. If the wait is 10 minutes, do not join from home. Just drive there. If it shows 50 to 60 minutes, join immediately from home so your name starts building time while you are still getting ready. Joining too late wastes the whole advantage.
The sweet spot is 30 to 40 minutes before you leave. Calling 15 minutes before leaving barely gives your name time to move up the list. Calling 90 minutes ahead usually gets refused because most locations only accept call ahead requests within a 60-minute window. On major holidays, call 45 to 60 minutes early since the list fills faster.
If you called ahead for a party of 4 and show up with 6, the host may need to move you down the list to find a table that fits the larger group. Always give the actual number when you call or join the app. If your party size changes before you arrive, call the restaurant and update it. A small change is usually fine. Doubling your party size is not.
Monday through Thursday before 5 PM, most Texas Roadhouse locations have walk-in waits under 15 minutes anyway. Call ahead seating saves the most time on Friday and Saturday evenings between 5 PM and 8 PM, on holidays, and on Mother's Day and Father's Day weekends when walk-in waits can exceed 90 minutes. Use it when it actually makes a difference.
When you arrive after calling ahead or joining the app waitlist, go directly to the host stand. Do not sit in the waiting area first. Do not go to the bar. Do not wait for your whole group to park before going in. One person should go immediately to the host stand, say "I called ahead" or "I'm on the app," and check in. This officially marks your arrival and stops the clock on your wait.
Walk-in wait vs call ahead wait by day and time slot.
| Day and Time | Walk-in Wait | Call Ahead Wait | Worth It? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon-Thu before 5 PM | 5-15 min | 0-5 min | Not really |
| Mon-Thu, 5-7 PM | 15-30 min | 5-10 min | Yes |
| Friday dinner, 5-7 PM | 30-50 min | 5-15 min | Absolutely |
| Friday dinner, 7-9 PM | 45-75 min | 10-20 min | Essential |
| Saturday dinner, 5-8 PM | 50-80 min | 10-25 min | Essential |
| Sunday lunch/dinner | 15-35 min | 5-15 min | Yes |
| Holidays (4th of July, etc.) | 60-90 min | 15-30 min | Essential |
Wait times are averages and vary by location. Busy locations in large cities tend toward the higher end.

Texas Roadhouse does not take traditional reservations. They use a call ahead seating system, which adds your name to the waitlist before you arrive. It is not a guaranteed table at a specific time. It simply means you are already in line when you walk through the door, which cuts your actual wait significantly.
Call your local Texas Roadhouse 30 to 40 minutes before you plan to arrive. Give the host your name, party size, and approximate arrival time. They add you to the waitlist. When you arrive, go to the host stand and say you called ahead. You will typically wait far less than a walk-in customer because your name has already been building time on the list.
Most Texas Roadhouse locations accept call ahead requests up to 30 to 60 minutes before arrival. Calling more than one hour ahead is generally not accepted because the wait list is managed in real time. The sweet spot is 30 to 40 minutes before you leave home, which gives your name enough time to build on the list without expiring.
You have approximately 15 minutes from when you receive the text notification to check in at the host stand. If you do not arrive within that window, your spot is typically given to the next group on the list and you have to start over. If you know you are running late, call the restaurant and let them know.
They accomplish the same thing but work differently. The app lets you join the waitlist remotely without calling, shows you a real-time estimated wait, and sends a text when your table is ready. Call ahead seating is done by phone and is the only option for parties larger than 6, since the app has size limits. For small groups, the app is faster and more convenient.
Yes, and for parties of 7 or more, calling directly is actually required. The app waitlist does not support large groups. When you call for a large party, be honest about the exact number and mention any special needs like high chairs or wheelchair accessibility. The host may suggest a specific arrival window for larger groups.
Call ahead seating saves the most time during Friday and Saturday dinner service between 6 PM and 8 PM, when walk-in waits can reach 45 to 75 minutes. On those nights, calling 35 to 40 minutes before arrival can reduce your wait to under 15 minutes. On weekdays or before 5 PM, call ahead is still useful but walk-in waits are short enough that the difference is smaller.
Find your nearest location, check the app for current wait time, and join the list before you leave home.
